The "Green Initiatives" project at the Robbins Museum
The Massachusetts Archaeological Society recently initiated an energy sustainability program focused on reducing both energy loss and energy consumption at the Robbins Museum. With the help of Middleborough Gas & Electric and ECHO, the sustainability management division of Energy New England, an innovative energy audit program identified a dozen concrete steps for improving energy efficiency in the gallery and office illumination units, heat delivery system, and building envelope. Now, through a generous donation from the Mayflower Bank, the Robbins will begin to address the most significant of these many tasks: the immediate replacement of multiple incandescent light fixtures for energy-efficient LED units and the insulation of the heat delivery system. The next steps will continue to expand on the sustainability plan, with the goals being the overall reduction of the Museum’s energy footprint, the stabilization of the indoor climate for the long-term preservation of the collections, and the improvement of gallery environments for a more comfortable visitor experience.
