The Wapanucket Room
Named in honor of the archaeological site in Middleborough, MA that was excavated by the
MAS from 1950 to 1982. This spectacular location was inhabited from the Paleo times
(over 9,000 years ago) to the contact period.
Displays include:
● Some of the more than 14,000 artifacts that were
recovered from the site.
● Locus diagrams displaying the arrangements of features
uncovered by the excavators.
● A diorama of a village at Wapanucket that was inhabited
in 2,400 BC.
● Objects sculpted from steatite (soapstone).
● Pottery.
● Artifacts from collections gathered in Massachusetts
and Rhode Island.
